Restorative Dentistry

Saving Teeth With Gentle, Modern Care

Root canal therapy is one of the most common and effective dental procedures, saving millions of teeth each year. When the soft tissue (pulp) inside a tooth becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, a crack, or trauma, a root canal removes the damaged tissue and restores the tooth to full health.

At Peninsula Dentistry, we use the latest rotary instruments, digital imaging, and advanced anesthesia to make root canal treatment smooth and virtually painless. Our gentle approach means less time in the chair, faster healing, and outstanding long-term results.

If you are experiencing tooth pain, do not wait. Early treatment can save your tooth and prevent the infection from spreading. Most patients tell us the procedure was far more comfortable than they expected, and they are grateful they chose to save their natural tooth.

Why Root Canal

Benefits of Root Canal Therapy

Saving your natural tooth is almost always the best option. Here is why.

Save Your Natural Tooth

Root canal therapy preserves your original tooth structure, avoiding extraction and the need for implants or bridges.

Eliminate Pain

The procedure removes the infected nerve tissue that causes your toothache, providing lasting relief from pain.

Prevent Infection Spread

Treating the infected pulp stops bacteria from spreading to surrounding teeth, gums, and even your bloodstream.

Modern Anesthesia

Advanced numbing techniques ensure you are completely comfortable throughout the entire procedure.

Quick Recovery

Most patients return to normal activities the next day with only mild tenderness that resolves quickly.

Affordable Treatment

Root canal therapy is significantly more cost-effective than extraction followed by an implant or bridge.

What to Expect

A clear, step-by-step look at how we make root canal therapy comfortable and effective.

01

Diagnosis & X-Rays

We take detailed digital X-rays to assess the extent of infection and determine the precise anatomy of your tooth roots for a targeted treatment plan.

02

Anesthesia & Comfort

Profound local anesthesia is administered to ensure you feel absolutely no pain. Sedation options are available for patients with dental anxiety.

03

Cleaning Infected Pulp

Using precision instruments and magnification, we carefully remove the infected nerve tissue and thoroughly clean and shape the root canals.

04

Filling & Sealing

The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha and sealed to prevent reinfection.

05

Crown Placement

A custom crown is placed over the treated tooth to restore its full strength, function, and appearance for years to come.

Is root canal therapy painful?
Contrary to popular belief, modern root canal therapy is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. Advanced anesthesia techniques ensure the treatment area is completely numb. Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the experience is. In fact, the procedure relieves the severe pain caused by the infected tooth.
How long does a root canal take?
Most root canal procedures are completed in a single appointment lasting 60 to 90 minutes. More complex cases involving molars with multiple canals may occasionally require a second visit. After the root canal, a follow-up appointment is needed to place the permanent crown.
What are the signs I need a root canal?
Common signs include severe toothache or throbbing pain, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers after the stimulus is removed, darkening or discoloration of a tooth, swelling or tenderness in the surrounding gums, and a persistent pimple-like bump on the gums near a tooth. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, contact us promptly.
What happens after a root canal?
After your root canal, you may experience mild soreness for a few days, which is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. You can eat normally once the numbness wears off, though we recommend chewing on the opposite side until your permanent crown is placed. We will schedule a follow-up to check healing and complete your restoration.
